As a weight loss physician and consultant, I try to assess how much activity a person doing on a daily basis, such as walking with a pedometer, or climbing steps, or yoga, or going to a gym, or any activity they like to do, CONSISTENTLY. How to get started with a fitness program and how to stay consistent are real concerns.
I just evaluated a patient who weighs 335 lbs since last year, and she told me she had been walking one mile a day for the past year, and low and behold….she still weighs 335lbs. She said her doctor reviewed her food diary and told her to eat more fruits and veggies, etc. She doesn’t fry her chicken, she sautes it. Good.
But upon further investigation, she said she walks at a slow pace, and she actually walks 3.5 miles three times a week (not one mile daily) and she does this in one- half hour to 45 minutes. RED Flag. Could there be some alteration of the truth.. Then she said that her primary care doctor didn’t have time to explain things to her and he was very busy, seeing three people at a time, and she doesn’t really know what to eat…and on and on, while her cell phone rang three times during her visit with me. She even answered it.

Many people do not realize the connection between hormones and between hormones and diet. There are definite links between having balanced hormones and diet. One of the key links is the connection between insulin and cortisol.
Many people have gotten into some very bad habits that caused their diets to go off kilter. Back in the 1990s, people developed a fear of ingesting fat. As a result, they turned to low-fat foods, in addition to things such as refined carbohydrates and simple sugars. This trend caused a major problem; and, it actually created a situation in which their bodies had to use a lot of insulin to balance all the sugar they were putting into their bloodstreams. It eventually got to the point where their bodies weren’t listening to the insulin and in fact became insulin resistant. This is an ongoing problem. The effect: The Obesity Epidemic. Weight Loss with the use of human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) is a very hot and controversial topic, to say the least. Oh Yes, controversial. It was something I had to research and explore, since my patients were asking for it, and I had really turned away from this approach.
Although a healthy diet, good nutrition and exercise are the mainstays of weight loss & fitness, HCG is an important new conversation and topic for the issue of weight loss. Why? Because metabolic syndrome is the most serious health problem in the United States, causing increasing morbidity and mortality. Metabolic syndrome is a combination of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and a problem with sugar metabolism and obesity.
I had a great conversation with Dr. Mayer Eisenstein, MD, JD, and an expert on the topic. Not only is he using sublingual HCG in his practice, but he has had great success on a personal level, losing more than 100 pounds in a year’s time. This is what I learned when I spoke with Dr. Eisenstein on Conversations with Dr. Shelby-Lane. Continue reading ‘Weight Loss, HCG and Metabolic Syndrome’ »
