The Gift of Your Life……In Memory of My Friend Lynn and….The Family Love Letter™.

As a physician who practices anti-aging and functional medicine, I have devoted my career to helping people live longer and create healthier lives. I have a passion for healthy living, so wellness and staying young has been my mantra.

But, in January of 2011, I experienced the sudden loss of two friends in their fifties, and a personal family tragedy that made me take a hard look at life. Sudden death wakes you up. As hard as I was working to keep people healthy and young, those closest to me were in trouble, and dying.

The Family Love Letter™. The Gift of Your Life

As an anti-aging physician, I have devoted my career to helping people live long and healthy lives. I have a passion for healthy living; wellness and staying young has been my motto. As a result, I created a teleseminar series called “Conversations with Dr. Shelby-Lane” to teach about health and longevity by interviewing the best health experts on planet earth.

But, in January of 2011, I experienced the sudden loss of two friends and a personal tragedy that made me take a hard look at life. Sudden death wakes you up. As hard as I was working to keep people healthy and young, those closest to me were in trouble, and dying. Continue reading ‘The Family Love Letter™. The Gift of Your Life’ »

Weight Loss, HCG and Metabolic Syndrome

Weight Loss with the use of human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) is a very hot and controversial topic, to say the least. Oh Yes, controversial. It was something I had to research and explore, since my patients were asking for it, and I had really turned away from this approach.

Although a healthy diet, good nutrition and exercise are the mainstays of weight loss & fitness, HCG is an important new conversation and topic for the issue of weight loss. Why? Because metabolic syndrome is the most serious health problem in the United States, causing increasing morbidity and mortality. Metabolic syndrome is a combination of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and a problem with sugar metabolism and obesity.

I had a great conversation with Dr. Mayer Eisenstein, MD, JD, and an expert on the topic.  Not only is he using sublingual HCG in his practice, but he has had great success on a personal level, losing more than 100 pounds in a year’s time. This is what I learned when I spoke with Dr. Eisenstein on Conversations with Dr. Shelby-Lane. Continue reading ‘Weight Loss, HCG and Metabolic Syndrome’ »

What is the Emotional Freedom Technique?

Emotional Freedom Technique

The Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is a form of alternative psychotherapy. EFT purports to manipulate the body’s energy field by tapping on acupuncture points while a specific traumatic memory is focused on as a treatment method to eliminate a psychological problem.

Last week was the 2011 Tapping World Summit (you may still be able to access recordings from the event).

The Emotional Freedom Technique is a one of a kind technique that creates life-altering results for those that use it. I invite you to learn more at http://shelbylanemd.com/tws.

Best of health,

The HIDDEN Formula to Treat Fibromyalgia

Approximately 4% of the people in the United States are suffering from fibromyalgia syndrome. Although it can happen to anyone at any age, most of these patients are women in their late thirties or early forties. Fibromyalgia is considered a syndrome because it has several symptoms in addition to pain. The HIDDEN protocol should be used to treat chronic fatigue, pain, and the diagnosis of fibromyalgia. It’s very easy, and there isn’t a secret formula. According to Dr. Maria Sulindro, managing these symptoms simply requires remembering what HIDDEN stands for. The Awesome Foursome

The awesome foursome are four nutritional supplements that are essential to increasing the survival rate of heart patients. These are magnesium, coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10), L-carnitine, and D-ribose.

In most patients with metabolic cardiac problems, these nutritional supplements will breathe energy into the heart. This is accomplished by building adenosine triphosphate (ATP) substrates inside the mitochondria of the heart cells. When this happens, the heart thrives. This is comparable to how a lawn blooms when provided with water and non-toxic, organic fertilizers. Continue reading ‘The Awesome Foursome’ »

Cholesterol – What it is and Why You Can’t Live Without it

Cholesterol is a waxy substance found among fats in the body. Despite bad publicity, cholesterol is necessary. It’s part of every cellular membrane in the body; we have over 100 trillion cells, and cholesterol is an integral part of that. It’s a large percentage of our brain tissue.

Cholesterol is used to synthesize our steroid hormones such as testosterone, estrogen, and progesterone. We also use cholesterol as a precursor to our stress hormones, such as cortisone, which raises the heart rate and make the muscles tense up. Cholesterol is also the precursor to vitamin D. It’s part of the nerves and part of the coating around our nerves, so it’s very integrated into the body.

Stem Cell Research – Is it Ethical or Not?

Stem cell research is a controversial issue. The biggest controversy isn’t over the use of adult or umbilical cord stem cells, which the Western world mostly accepts. The issue is with using fetal stem cells.

Embryonic stem cells are another matter. They have been heavily publicized, but most people don’t understand them. When couples have trouble conceiving, they sometimes visit a fertility clinic. The eggs are harvested and joined with the sperm in a test tube or Petri dish to create embryos. If there are leftover embryos, they are usually either frozen for future use or discarded. Another possibility is to allow them to be harvested for the embryonic stem cells.

The Cholesterol Myth

The current view of cholesterol is nothing but a widespread myth.  This myth is spread through television, magazines, books and right in the office of your family physician or specialist.  Cholesterol is often found at the scene of the crime, but it’s not the perpetrator.

The truth is, sugar is the real criminal.  Sugar causes heart disease; it suppresses the immune system and it ages you.  High fructose corn syrup can be found in many foods you eat every day including bread, cereal, sauces, peanut butter, soda, baked goods and more.  When you ingest high fructose corn syrup it provokes insulin release and causes problems.
